Cover up, girl; the wonders of underwear as outerwear

Don't you just love that we live in such a world which is so liberated that if we walked down the street in a transperant white top with only a small lace black bra underneath we would probably be whisled at and adored instead of being locked up (unless you were overly large and raped the eyes of innocent bystanders). Ah, the wonders of the modern world.

The great thing about the old world of vintage is; our grandmothers all wore these beautiful, intricate lacy under garments however social taboos dating right up until women's liberation in the sixties meant no one but their lucky husbands could see these beautiful materials in all their glory. THANK GOD times have changed and everyone can pretty much walk around in corsets and bloomers without a worry.

I for one, love this trend and will be sporting as many corsets, stay ups and lace ensembles as I can before people realise it's quite unflattering for the majority of the general public.

Treasure Hunting

The essential blazer

Fringe Bar markets

Hunting around Fringe Bar markets in Paddington I was slapped across the face with everyones new obsession with the statement jacket/blazer. My prediction is that these, very often outrageous, jackets will become the must have pieces for winter 2010. They will replace frumpy looking coats and add a splash of much needed fun to the 'black only' winter uniform everyone has subscribed to in the last few years. Absolutely infuriating!

Here's what I found- All pieces are $20 so if you would like get ahead of the game, throw me a line and I'll hook you up :)

White 90s blazer. Very loose fitting, for sizes 6-12.

Liv Tyler hopping on the oversized white blazer trend

90s black and white striped fitted blazer. Size 8-10

My favourite fashionista Whitney Port is also loving the striped blazer. Wear it over a contrasting dress and really make a statement.

80s leopard print loose fitting jacket. Size 8-12

Kate Moss in her leopard. So hot!

80s bright red velour structured blazer with strong shoulders

Cute pleating on the back and arm zippers

A new era in vintage

“A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period.
When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind,
it is never the style that triumphs.” Coco Chanel

The words of my hero Coco Chanel have never been so relevant as they are today. Vintage clothing is not simply old and tattered, though it may very well be a little smelly (nothing that a good dry cleaner can't fix), it's also unique and one of a kind. When comparing today's mass produced chain store pieces to vintage threads, it's immediately clear why vintage fashion has seen such a revival in the past couple of years. Who wouldn't want to pay half the price and receive double the style and quality? It just seems well, logical.

And that's where The Vintage Market Place comes in. An assult on uncreative and poorly constructed fashion has brought me here. Get ready to ignite your senses with the best vintage fashion Sydney, Australia has to offer.

A self confessed vintage junkie, I will happily scour the markets and vintage stores all over Sydney to bring you the best our glittering city has to offer.

Prepare to be amazed!
